Eco-Retreat at Ffynnon Dawel
“As you drop off the main road and down into the secret valley, you not only enter a hidden world, but one set outside of time. Taking the path through the woods, I arrived at a small footbridge to cross the stream and then into Ffynnon Dawel’s orchard and gardens. Helen Blackburn had arranged three days of introspection and connection with this saturated part of Wales. Here it felt like the valleys were more hidden, the beaches more expansive, and the hills brimming with history, legend and story. During our small group’s short stay, we discussed eco-therapy theory, ate from the garden, created woven objects from wild grass stalks, went to the beach and swam in the sea, made a drumming circle and walked the woods. All of this took place outside under canvas awnings and fireside. Helen and her partner Mark offered more than hospitality; they provided a portal into a hidden landscape that had so much to say to the visitor. Ffynnon Dawel has indelibly entered my consciousness, and its presence continues to dwell there, speaking to me messages from the natural world. Return will be inevitable.””

“Helen and her family’s welcome at Ffynon Dawel was very warm. The embrace of the land is soothing and calming. We discovered some beautiful beaches on the nearby coast and went swimming in the sea, which was one of my favourite moments. Helen’s space and gentle facilitation provide an opportunity to deepen our connection with the abundance of nature while nurturing contact with friends and colleagues. I loved trying out different activities outdoors and especially enjoyed the evening around the fire, sharing stories, songs, poems and music. I would love to go again.”

“Ffynnon Dawel is a magical and beautiful place where the natural world is fully alive and present, yet with many hidden corners of peaceful sanctuary. Helen offered a welcoming and nurturing space that encouraged me to connect with the land and other therapists and engage with new perspectives and activities that felt deeply rooted in her local place. I have taken away a new sense of wonder, particularly from the many butterflies I spent time with during my stay, and inspiration to find more creative and embodied ways of connecting with my own home place.”
